This beautifully illustrated book will get children thinking about the impact of plastic trash in the ocean.
He‘e, the octopus is sad—her beautiful Pacific Ocean is filling up with plastic trash. She asks her friend, the moon Mahina to do something. Mahina uses her magnetic moon magic to pull the trash up out of the ocean and drop it back on the city. Now the humans don’t like the plastic trash either— what will they do?
From the author:
There is a delicate balance to be struck when we present children with the 'problems of the world' in their picture books, to inform but not overwhelm or make children feel responsible or anxious. "No More Plastic in the Ocean" presents a serious problem, one that is evident to most children living on seashores all over the world, but here the answer is found in a child's appeal to the magic of the ocean animals and the watchful moon, who find a playful way to make humans change their rude behavior. Hawaiian terms for caring for the environment add to the hope that something can be done with a change of heart.
